We all need a reminder at times, about what is and is not acceptable in a dispensary. If you’re a first time visitor, these tips will keep you in check. Here are the 10 things you should know about dispensary etiquette.
1. Don’t be a jerk about showing your ID
Seriously though. Both medical and recreational dispensaries adhere to incredibly strict rules laid down by local governments. Even if you’re 80 years old, expect to be ID’d. Always have it ready to go, and be willing at answer any questions they may have for you.
2. Be nice to your budtender
This isn’t a drug deal – you don’t need to be hostile.Budtenders will always say things like “So, what are you looking for today?” If they sound far too eager to assist you, it’s because they sincerely mean it. These people are around bud, concentrates, and edibles all day long, and they want to pass on the knowledge. Don’t be a weirdo and still-arm them.
3. Don’t roll up with a million friends
ESPECIALLY when you’re the only one buying! In many dispensaries, they don’t let large groups into the room with the good stuff – so don’t be let down if you were just trying to show your friends your favorite spot. If your group is allowed in, it’s rude to have five people smell strains, and then only sell two grams. Don’t be that person.
4. Bring cash
More and more dispensaries are accepting credit and debit cards, but bringing cash is always a smart idea. Banks in states that have recently legalized weed oftentimes have trouble navigating the legality of allowing dispensaries to open accounts. Do everyone a favor!
5. Have a plan
If you’ve never been in a dispensary before, learn before you shop. Know how much weed you want to purchase, and what a gram looks like. Don’t walk in with no knowledge, near closing-time on a Friday night when there are 10 people behind you. Just don’t.
6. Leave your cell phone behind
Don’t stroll into a dispensary hoping to take photos – most have a very strict “no photo” policy. If you’re happens to be more lack about phones, don’t be texting while your budtender is trying to help you out – it’s rude. Be present, smell some nugs, and put your phone away.
7. No haggling
Again, this is a place of business. Don’t try to flirt your way into an extra nug, or threaten to give a bad review in exchange for a bit more. If you didn’t know, cannabis products are intricately tracked, and you trying to snag something extra could potential harm the dispensary in a very real way. If you can’t afford the bud or amount you want, stay home.
8. No consumption on dispensary property
Consumption of cannabis on dispensary property is not allowed. Ever. Don’t try packing your bowl or rolling a joint – it just isn’t going to happen. If you decide to risk it, expect consequences.
9. No loitering
Dispensaries are made to come and go. Don’t be that person hanging at a dispensary for hours – it’s downright weird. Plus, it makes you look incredibly suspicious.
Maybe this is your first time buying weed legally. If so, YAY! Be chill about it. It’s legal, and you’re gonna have some quality green to enjoy when you get home.
