Hello,

My name is ________________ (your name) and I live at/in _______________ (address and city). I am writing today to give a testimony concerning the matter of implementing the “Cannabinoid Medicine Act”, an act to tax and regulate the use of medical cannabis in the State of Utah.

Here is a snap-shot of qualified information:
* More than 3 out of 5 Utahns want to see medicinal marijuana legalized in the state. Governor Herbert in the Salt Lake Tribune

* 32% of Utah adults (18 and older) were prescribed an opioid pain medication in 2014. Most Utahns who die from a drug-related death suffer from chronic pain and take prescribed medications. health.utah.gov

* Utah ranks 4th in the nation for drug poisoning deaths from 2000-2014, which outpaces deaths from firearms, falls, and car crashes. health.utah.gov

* Medical cannabis used as part of a treatment plan can provide relief/treatment to 6 or the top 10 leading causes of death according to the stats of the State of Utah, CDC Report.

It is for these reasons that I urge you to allow me, if I choose and my doctor sees need, access of the medicinal plant, cannabis, and to allow grows and dispensaries throughout the state.

As these laws are considered and passed, I want them to provide:
1. Safe and Legal access of controlled, medical grade cannabis medicine
2. Access to the plant through a relationship with their doctor
3. Jobs for our people
4. Tax income from the industry that will impact the quality of our schools.

As you are creating the framework and legalizing medical cannabis, this sends a strong message to those working with you to make sound decisions for our community. Utahns and the people of ___________________________ (your city) desire an approach to cannabis regulation that no longer demonizes the substance, but regulates it making it an accessible medicine for people who are sick and to either help relieve pain and discomfort from their illness or provide a level of treatment to help with their disease.

Hundreds of thousands of Utahns and their doctors are desperate to utilize medical cannabis legally to treat chronic pain, PTSD, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and so much more.

Utah is also a crisis with opioid addiction and overdose fatalities. Legalization will change the face of drug usage, significantly reducing black market sales of cannabis for medical purposes.

Medical grade grow facilities and dispensaries will create and provide jobs as well as revenue in the forms of taxes and fees levied through the sale of the medicine.

Although legalizing cannabis in the State of Utah for medical use will not alone halt our crisis, it is essential to grab hold of the many opportunities placed before our community.

In closing, I would like to sincerely thank you for your time and your consideration.

Sincerely,

I understand:
* More than 3 out of 5 Utahns want to see medicinal marijuana legalized in the state. Governor Herbert in the Salt Lake Tribune

* 32% of Utah adults (18 and older) were prescribed an opioid pain medication in 2014. Most Utahns who die from a drug-related death suffer from chronic pain and take prescribed medications. health.utah.gov

It is for these reasons that I urge you to allow me, if I choose and my doctor sees need, access of the medicinal plant, cannabis, and to allow grows and dispensaries throughout the state.

I believe that by passing medical cannabis laws, you will be granting Utahns:
1. Safe and Legal access of controlled, medical grade cannabis medicine
2. Access to the plant through a relationship with their doctor
3. Jobs for our people
4. Tax income from the industry that will impact the quality of our schools.

I appreciate that you are creating a framework to legalize medical cannabis and can see it is sending a strong message to our communities and our youth that this matter is not taken lightly. Utahns and the people of _______________________ (your city) want cannabis legislation that no longer demonizes the substance, but regulates it as a medicine.

I am one of the hundreds of thousands of Utahns who are desperate to at least have this option available to treat any condition I may have either now or in the future and know it has helped in the treatment of chronic pain, PTSD, Parkinson’s disease, Epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and more.

This will also help to curb the opioid crisis and reduce overdose fatalities by giving patients another, more gentle option.

And to top it off, legalizing medical cannabis will provide more jobs and revenue for our economy.

In closing, I would like to sincerely thank you for your time and your consideration.
